SOPHIA, NC — [October 2, 2025] —The 23rd Annual North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway will shine a special spotlight on the 602 Crate Modified division with a lucrative race paying tribute to the late Robbie Brewer. The feature will be 68 laps in distance in recognition of Brewer’s legacy and will pay $5,000 to win, including the $3,000 Robbie Brewer Bonus.
Entry blanks with full purse details are now available online at CarawaySpeedway.com.
The 2025 Shootout will remember Brewer, a beloved veteran racer who passed away earlier this year following a medical emergency during competition at Bowman Gray Stadium. Brewer, a former 602 Modified champion, was widely admired for his skill, determination, and camaraderie in the pits. Journalist Gerald Jackson reflected, “Robbie Brewer leaves behind not just a racing record, but a legacy built on passion, grit, and heart.”
It was fitting that this division, comprised of teams with such similar characteristics, would be chosen to honor his memory.
“Robbie loved the Shootout,” said Darren Hackett, owner and promoter of Caraway Speedway. “So, it felt right that we honor him this way. And all of us at Caraway Speedway admired him greatly.”
A staple of grassroots racing, the 602 Modifieds bring close competition among drivers of all ages. In addition to their presence at Caraway Speedway, the cars compete on the Carolina Crate Mod Tour and at northern tracks such as Stafford Motor Speedway (SK Light division), Riverhead Raceway, Evans Mills Speedway, and others.
Shootout weekend kicks off Thursday, November 6, with optional practice and inspection, followed by practice and qualifying on Friday, November 7. The tribute feature will take place on Saturday, November 8. The 602 Modifieds will compete alongside a full slate of North-South Shootout racing action that includes Tour-Type Modifieds, ISMA/MSS Supermodifieds, Chargers, Crown Vics (Friday only), Vintage Fall Nationals, and more. A full schedule will be available at CarawaySpeedway.com.
Entry fees are $100 if received by October 27, 2025, and $150 afterward.
